Transcend Level 6 Award in Effective School Governance

B11 Education has partnered with Transcend Awards Limited, an awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual in England, to offer the first regulated qualification for school governors at a level commensurate with the role that they perform. Our research into the training on offer to governors showed a gap in the market for those wanting to achieve a qualification that demonstrates their effectiveness as a school governor. While other qualifications are available, they do not require the same level of knowledge and reflection that are an intrinsic part of the assessment process for this one. The aim of this qualification is to develop the learner’s ability to fulfil a school governor role and support effective strategic leadership in schools.

The qualification has been built around the most up to date versions of the DfE Governance Handbook and the Education Inspection Framework. It will ensure that those enrolled on the qualification develop a thorough understanding of their role as a school governor.  They will be able to demonstrate it through a portfolio of evidence gathered over at least three school terms and through a professional discussion similar to that which would take place during an Ofsted inspection.

The qualification comprises three mandatory units.

Unit 1: Duties of a school governor, assessed by reflective practice

Unit 2: Driving standards as a school governor, assessed by professional discussion

Unit 3: Deployment as a school governor, assessed by portfolio of evidence

Initially, units one and two will be delivered as one day training webinars by one of our highly skilled and experienced consultants with particular expertise in governance. Unit three will comprise building a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your effectiveness during meetings and visits to the school. You will be expected to produce a report which refers to this evidence and justifies your contributions, impact and intentions.
